Sunday 13th November.
GIFC were at Crownpoint on league duty this week trying to put an end to a run of back to back defeats in recent weeks. By then end of the afternoon we would have suffered our worst result so far and been given a lesson in finishing by the hosts.
The game was a tight affair up until 35 mins when Crownpoint took the lead. A disputable penalty and some criminal defending all over the pitch would see Crownpoint take a 3-0 lead into the break.
The Irish tried to influence the game in midfield but were overran time and again by the hungrier team on the day. Conceding another 4 goals throughout the half without reply after some ruthless finishing from the impressive home team.
The Irish would do well to put things into perspective after today’s result. With the club only 5 months young there are many lessons to be learned from a beating such as this one. The management and committee have every faith in our players to get things back on track and can ensure hard work will be applied to recover from our darkest day so far.
Everyone at the club would like to wish a speedy recovery to the Crownpoint midfielder who appeared to have suffered a dislocated elbow early in the game.
